Weekend Craft: Dazzling Candle Wraps!

Dazzling candle wraps add elegance to your Christmas decorating with very little work. They can be customized to your homes décor.

Beautiful to give or keep, these wraps will help add some sparkle to the holidays!

SUPPLY LIST:

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Measure the diameter of candle with cloth measuring tape. The width of the wrap should be a little less than a third of the size of the candle. For example, the candle pictured is 9” tall and the wrap is 2 ¾” wide by 20” in length. Remember to add an extra inch for the overlap to the length.

2. Place red vinyl in embossing folder lengthwise and sandwich between the mats and insert into machine and emboss. After embossing the first time, and if the strip is longer than the embossing folder, turn the embossing folder crosswise so that the longest part of the folder just fits through the opening and insert the vinyl into the embossing folder and continue embossing where the previous embossing ended. Repeat process until the whole strip is embossed.

3. Next, turn over the embossed strip of vinyl and peel back about ½” of the backing and trim off just the backing – this will be how the wrap is attached to the candle. Do not remove any other part of the backing! Repeat the same process on the other end.

4. Attached to the candle in the center by pressing the uncovered section to candle and then fasten edges together, keeping the wrap aligned.

5. Using a Cricut die cut machine, cut approximately 8 – 2” snowflakes from the silver sparkle vinyl. Depending on how the flakes are spaced, more may be needed. Use a blade depth of 3 or 4 depending upon your machine, a medium speed, and a low pressure. After cutting flakes, lightly cut a box around the snowflakes with knife and weed away the remaining excess vinyl. Pick out all centers and holes.

6. Once all the holes and excess vinyl are removed, cut a square of transfer tape to use to remove each snowflake from the paper backing and burnish well to transfer flake to transfer tape. This kind of metal vinyl is a little tricky to attach to the transfer tape. A dental pick may be needed to help lift the flake from the backing. Place half of snowflake on candle and half on red vinyl in any pattern desired. Burnish tape on wrap and candle then remove tape, repeat with each flake.

Happy wrapping!

Christmas is in the Air!

Now that the Thanksgiving festivities are over and the Black Friday madness has ceased, it's time to get started on all things Christmas!  To get started, we have Christmas Cards Galore! Our OMC designer Lindsey created all these cards to get the Christmas season started out right.  Take a look, get some ideas, and start card making!

First we have this adorable "Greetings" card.  Lindsey created this card using paper from the Everybody Loves Christmas paper pack from Echo Park and Bazzill Cardstock.

Lindsey created homemade "ornaments" using Jenni Bowlin Vintage Buttons in Red and Green.  She glued the buttons on to the paper and then drew the ornament tops and strings with a brown pen.  The end result is super cute!

This "Joy" card was also made with the Everybody Loves Christmas paper pack from Echo Park.
Using a chipboard snowflake and some Stickles Glitter Glue, Lindsey helped this "joy"ful little card pop!

For this cheerful "Merry Christmas" card Lindsey used Bazzill Glazed Cardstock and the Everybody Loves Christmas paper pack from Echo Park.  She created the striped pocket using the Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher. Then using some Basic Grey jewels and the stickers from the Echo Park paper pack, she gave the card some extra bling and style!

We can't forget the ink!  Lindsey loves the new Jenni Bowlin Dye Ink Pads .  She used both Brown Sugar & Chewing Gum to give the insert card a more vintage look.

Lindsey used the Echo Park Wintertime paper kit for this "Winter" card. Using the Maya Road Snowflakes Mini Chipboard Set and the Jenni Bowlin Acrylic Paint Dabbers, Lindsey made colorful snowflakes to match the paper she used.  Just give it a little bling and you're set to go!

Last, but not least, we have this beautifully simple "Snow" card.  Lindsey used the Echo Park Wintertime paper pack for this one. With another chipboard snowflake Lindsey used Elizabeth Craft Glitter Ritz to make it sparkle and shine.  A single pearl embellishment completes the classic look.

If you have any questions about these cards or any of Lindsey's other projects, feel free to contact her directly at lindsfill@gmail.com - Just make sure to put the project name as your subject line.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend and happy card making!

And the Spotlight Goes To...

DIANNE LEE!

Hi! I’m Dianne Lee from Malaysia, but I came to the US in January 2009
to study at Drake University, Iowa. I’m currently a senior and my
major is Actuarial Science. Where I come from, there are no scrapbook
stores and it was not a huge thing at all. Hence, I was first exposed
to the scrapbooking world when I came over here. It all started
because I decided one day that I wanted to put together a scrapbook
for my boyfriend’s birthday. I find it funny that until today, I have
yet to finish that album but I have completed a lot of other projects!
Being in college, I am always busy with school and extra-curricular
activities but I try to craft whenever I have the time. I also find
myself addicted to Youtube videos related to crafts and of course,
shopping at OMC!

1. What do you craft? Cardmaker, scrapbooker, etc.
I’m into almost everything! I love making cards, mini-albums and alter
frames or other trinkets as gifts for my friends and family. I also
art journal and make layouts, which oddly, I find it most challenging!
Recently I purchased the “Handmade” magazines (I highly recommend
them!) at OMC and it gave me so much ideas! I always love trying out
new things!

2. Favorite technique or tool you use?
I love to distress everything with my Tim Holtz Distress Inks! I also
recently got a Sizzix BigKick for my birthday and I can’t imagine
myself without it.

3. How long have you been crafting?
I started crafting about a year ago, and I am loving it!

4. How long have you been an OMC customer?
I have only been an OMC customer for almost two months but I had made
4 orders! I first found them at their ebay store. I wish I would have
found them earlier because I could have saved so much.

5. What are your favorite products you can find at OMC?
My favorite products are the Cuttlebug and Sizzix items, since I’m
starting to grow my collection. Sometimes, I find some of the items
even cheaper that the SizzixOutlet store. I also love the Handmade
magazines which I mentioned above.

6. What is your favorite thing about OMC?
I love the great customer service and how people-oriented they are. I
had issues with a Sizzix die and it was taken care of almost
instantly. In addition, I also love the selection and low prices!

7. Favorite quote or phrase?
Write your hurts in the sand, carve your benefits in stone.

Check out some of Diane's amazing projects!

Thanks for being our latest Customer Spotlight Dianne! Good luck with all your future crafting.

The "Tradition" Winners Are...

Thanks to everyone who participated in our Thankgiving Traditions contest!  We enjoyed reading all the different traditions you shared.

The winners of the contest are Renee Tomasko Dorrian, Kimberly, and KH!

Renee Tomasko Dorrian said...
We wake up and spend the morning checking out all the black friday ads and planing our shopping route for black friday. Prep the turkey for deep frying and then watch the Macy day parade and football. Dinner is more like lunch served at halftime. And don't forget about all the trimmings and traditions like that silly cranberry sauce in the can dumped into a bowl as is. The kids just love poking it and watching it jiggle.

Kimberly said...
Thanksgiving growing up was always held at home. My Mom and Aunt would trade off each year having the celebration. When my Mom passed away, that tradition fell to the wayside. Now, I have moved back into the family home to care for my elderly Dad. The tradition of eating at home is BACK! I am so excited to have the family back around the same table we used all those years ago. I am thankful to have the opportunity to bring the tradition back to life.

KH said...
We have a multi-generational tradition of food, food, and more food. I once spent a Thanksgiving with my Great- Aunt where she made a 35 pound turkey, pounds and pounds of mash potatoes and gravy, and all kinds of side dishes. As we were all about to pass out, she brought out 10 pies (there were only 30 of us and some were small children). Then I was introduced to the concept of back up pies, just in case we ran out of pie. Now that was a feast.

If our winners would kindly send their shipping addresses to contest@ohmycrafts.com we will send out their prizes!
